DTE Energy Foundation Trail
Big Kame Loop Grand Opening Ride Party
Saturday, June 10th 11am to 3pm
Come celebrate the grand opening of the new Big Kame Loop at DTE with us! This new 5 mile loop (approximate mileage) is packed with stunning views, significant elevation changes, and lots of special trail features as the trail meanders up and around the Big Kame formation north of Green Lake. Bring your bike, hiking or running shoes. Be aware that this loop is bike-optimized singletrack trail which requires more intermediate technical and aerobic skills than the Green Lake Loop, the first 5 miles of trail. Big Kame will be accessible from the M-52 trail head, and will be directional based on the day of the week, as it is with the Green Lake Loop.*
Participants are invited to bring their own beverages and food to the event. Participants may bring a charcoal or gas grill to prepare food and tailgate, however, please make sure the grill is elevated off the ground (no ground fires or open pit fires are allowed) and that hot coals are disposed of properly. Alcohol is NOT prohibited at the DTE Energy Foundation Trail, but please moderate your consumption and drink responsibly if you choose to partake.
RAIN DATE: In case of inclement weather, the event will be postponed to Sunday, June 11th.
If you have questions, please send an email to email@example.com.
* On the date of the event, the direction on Green Lake Loop will be counterclockwise for bikers and clockwise for hikers. Since the Big Kame Loop is currently only accessible via Green Lake Loop, this will mean that bikers will have to travel about a quarter mile counterclockwise on Green Lake Loop before they reach the “intersection” with Big Kame. Foot traffic will need to travel approximately 4.8 miles to reach the intersection. Big Kame’s daily directions will be the same as those for Green Lake Loop. So, on the day of the event, bikes will travel counterclockwise on Big Kame, and foot traffic will travel clockwise. Directions will be posted on confidence markers at the trail.
