Project Overview and Costs

The Waterloo Trail is a project of unprecedented scope and breadth – a public/private partnership between the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) and the International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA) to create the Midwest’s premier mountain bike trail system. The approved trail plan will consist of five loops totaling approximately 25 miles, with each loop constructed progressing in level of difficulty and challenge. While some volunteer base will be utilized for trail corridor clearing, most of the trail will be built by renowned mountain bike trail builders, Spectrum Trail Designs (www.spectrumtraildesign.com). As fully-envisioned, the trail build out cost breakdown per loop is as follows:

For a contribution of $255,000 to be arranged over a five-year period, a corporation or individual will be empowered to name the entire trail system. While subject to MDNR approval, anything from corporate names to corporate brands to the name of an individual are open as possibilities.  Subsequent to purchase, the Waterloo Trail will henceforth be known as the <Insert Name Here> Waterloo Trail System. This name will be utilized in all official media and publication references to the trail, ranging from State of Michigan MDNR and Travel and Tourism to IMBA trails maps and official correspondence.
